LOCATION: Jefferson-Lewis BOCES and Affiliated Regional Program Sites
COMPENSATION: Compensation will be commensurate with the candidate's experience and qualifications and will be negotiated with the school district making the appointment.
RESPONSIBILITES/DUTIES: Selected candidates must be prepared to serve in any one of the 17 component school districts supported by Jefferson-Lewis-Hamilton-Herkimer-Oneida BOCES. Assignments may arise throughout the school year and may vary in duration based on the needs of the requesting school district. This is an ongoing recruitment. Admission to the candidate pool does not guarantee an assignment.
• Serving as the chief executive officer of the school district and providing leadership for all district programs, operations, and personnel.
• Working collaboratively with the board of education to maintain continuity, establish priorities, and support effective governance.
• Implementing board policies and carrying out the goals and directives established by the board of education.
• Providing leadership and oversight for instructional programs, student services, finance, human resources, facilities, transportation, school safety, and district operations.
• Overseeing the development, administration, and monitoring of the district budget in collaboration with the school business official and board of education.
• Ensuring compliance with applicable federal and state laws, New York State Education Department requirements, board policies, collective bargaining agreements, and district procedures.
• Supporting labor relations, collective bargaining, personnel matters, and the administration of employee contracts.
• Assisting with emergency response, district safety planning, crisis management, and continuity of operations.
• Providing continuity during the leadership transition and assisting the board of education with preparations for the arrival of a permanent superintendent.
• As requested by the Board of Education or Jefferson-Lewis BOCES, provide coaching, mentoring, and leadership support to newly appointed superintendents and district leadership teams to promote a successful transition and strengthen organizational capacity.
• Possess successful experience as a superintendent of schools in a public-school setting.
• Hold a valid New York State School District Leader certification.
• Demonstrate knowledge of New York State public school governance, curriculum and instruction, school finance, personnel administration, labor relations, school law, student services, and district operations.
• Demonstrate experience working collaboratively with a board of education.
• Demonstrate the ability to enter a school community, quickly assess its needs, establish priorities, build trust, and provide stable leadership.
• Possess strong interpersonal, communication, organizational, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
• Demonstrate professionalism, sound judgment, flexibility, confidentiality, integrity, and a commitment to public education.
• Be willing and able to serve in any one of the 17 component school districts within Jefferson-Lewis-Hamilton-Herkimer-Oneida BOCES.
